About

Hi there!

Sparncht is a production pottery studio led by me, Michelle Sparnicht. I produce dinnerware, mugs, and home decor. My ware is made from durable, fine porcelain produced locally in Tacoma, Washington. I make all of my glazes custom and from scratch. My pieces are dishwasher and microwave safe, and lead free.

I began working with clay in 2000 at Creative Arts Group in Sierra Madre, CA,  and  have taken a plethora of city college courses in ceramics in Los Angeles and the Bay Area. Some of my educators include Richard McColl and Janet Lohr, two potters whom I admire immensely. I studied art history and anthropology at UC Berkeley, with a concentration in ancient art and archaeology. I'm very drawn to the materiality of human culture across time, and the magic of what is handmade.

What's in a name?

Sparnicht is my family name from my father. I don't speak German, but I understand that Sparnicht means spare not. It implies spendthrift, but my father likes to mention it means "you don't hold back". :)

Let’s be in touch! I love chatting with folks about clay. Please don’t hesitate to reach out for any clay related conversations, questions or inquiries.
